Software ownership

© 2026 GeoLinguistics Inc. All rights reserved in its original Workbench software. GeoLinguistics Inc. is an Indigenous-owned business incorporated in the Province of Ontario, Canada. Its ownership covers its original application code, interface and software documentation; it does not include community language materials or third-party components.

Community language ownership

Each language belongs to its people. Each community retains ownership and authority over its language, community orthography and standardization rules. Using the Workbench does not assign or transfer those rights to GeoLinguistics Inc.

Community work and source materials

Community-created transcriptions, translations, annotations, recordings, reviewed entries and other contributions remain with the community or their respective rights holders. Storage, processing, bug reporting and export through the Workbench do not transfer ownership to GeoLinguistics Inc. Historical publications, source images and other third-party materials remain subject to their respective rights and permissions. This software notice does not grant GeoLinguistics permission to publish, commercialize or reuse community materials for unrelated purposes.

Authorized software use

Named users authorized by GeoLinguistics Inc. may access this hosted application for their assigned language work. Software access and related services may be provided for a fee under a separate agreement. Those fees are for the software and services, not ownership of a community’s language, standardization rules or materials. Keep accounts individual and do not share credentials. Access to the application is not a transfer of ownership of the software or a grant to copy, distribute, sublicense, sell or commercially host GeoLinguistics’ proprietary software. Those activities require written permission, except where applicable law or a third-party licence provides otherwise. These software restrictions do not restrict a community’s ownership or use of its own language materials and exported work.

Third-party components

The Workbench uses third-party components, including Flask, Gunicorn, Kraken, wn, Pillow, NumPy, PyTorch and torchvision, and Open English WordNet data. Their owners retain their rights, and their own licences and notices continue to apply. GeoLinguistics’ proprietary software notice does not replace or restrict those licences. OCR model and source-corpus rights are separate from ownership of the Workbench application.

Client agreements

Any separately executed client agreement governs the relevant engagement. This ownership and permitted-use notice is not a record of a signed agreement or proof of user acceptance. Notice version: 2026-10-29.
